Are you using Adobe InDesign for brochure printing? This software is quite a powerful tool in creating full color brochures. If you are just starting out with brochure printing and design though, let me give you a few tips that should make your design process a little easier. First let me talk about templates.

Always use the templates Templates are quite the handy feature that you should rely upon, especially in the early months of your design career. Templates makes it easier for most people to design brochures since of of the major options are already set in the template. All you really need to do is to add and build upon the template to create your own design. Adobe InDesign has a few brochure templates built it for your convenience.

Always download new templates If you do not like the templates with the software itself though, I recommend downloading some templates over the Internet. A lot of people actually share their brochure layout templates with others and some are quite nice indeed. This can be a good thing to do especially if you have been using the built-in templates in the application. I find it good to look for special new and improved brochure templates at design blogs and brochure printing company websites.

Use blending options for text Now, while images are usually the focus of some color brochure designers, to make them look great, you should also remember that the text can also be edited and changed quite extensively. Do not forget that the you can use blending options to shape and alter the look of text. Effects like shadows, colored strokes, glows and texture surfaces can easily be applied to make certain text stand out and be better understood. So if you want your text to shine, try using some of those effects quite liberally.

Make efficient use of paragraph formatting- You should also know that while Adobe InDesign is not a word processor per se, you can control a lot about your brochure’s text by using paragraph formatting window. In this window you can set a lot of things from line spacing, character spacing as well as the length and width of the characters themselves. This can be quite useful if you are aiming to fit a sizable amount of text into simple and short color brochures.

Always check the colors Finally, for your images, you should always pay attention to their colors as you switch form designing to printing. Most printers prefer that the draft file uses the four color CMYK mode so that it matches their printing technique. So always check this setting to be sure that what you see on screen is the color that will be printed. Otherwise you should try and change the color mode in the application to see things better.

Does it really matter what they call it? What matters most is WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO TO HELP YOUR CHILD SUCCEED?

WE get asked this question on a daily basis—parents concerned that their child is not succeeding in school, not reading, school remedial programs are not successful, even outside tutoring programs have not been successful. Parents are at their wits end. No one seems to understand. Their child tries SO hard to read but no amount of repetition of sounding out words seems to be working. If your child has difficulty reading, does it really matter WHAT you call it?

Reading can be easy for some Any six-year old can do it! or it can be excruciatingly hard for otherswhether they be adults or siblings of those who can read. Children do not CHOOSE not to read. Ask any six year old who is struggling to readmore than anything they WANT to be good at reading! There is no doubt that in order to read one must be able to recognize and use symbols that when combined make words: alphabetic phonemic awareness. But what happens when a child does not recognize that the letters in a particular order actually MEAN something? Those words should create a PICTURE in their minds? What if they see a word on the top of the page, sound it out and then proceed to sound it out differently every time it appears on the very same page? Is this really a reading problem or a visual memory problem?

Remember, one has to first recognize that symbols are similar in order to remember them Add to this that these are children (later adults), who are extremely creative, sensitive and learn best when using their VISUAL systems. It somehow doesnt seem fair that those who learn visually are taught in a logical, sequential and auditory mode that does not work for them, and that they often have not been taught how to use their visual memory for school work..

As parents and educators it is important to support and teach these children with a holistic approach, using the strengths they have. In my experience of working with hundreds of children and their parents, when everyone, including parents, use the right tools that involve attention, visual motor training, alphabetic sequencing and creative visualization as well as positive language and goal setting, ANYTHING is possible. More than anything, reading, school success and self-esteem start to riseand the emotional outbursts that we as parents experience on a regular basis when our children feel defeated, are significantly reduced.

So call it what you like- but by all means make sure you consider learning systems that capitalize on your childrens strength, address their issues and help you to help them.. Our future depends on tapping your childrens potential.
